Rummaging through my old hard disk drive for some photographs, I came across this image of Angus posing with our friend Vijay in Triund. Here is Angus, standing on a lower ground so that he doesn’t tower over Vijay and leans on Vijay’s broad shoulder looking into the camera. I must have taken it in 1998, not very long after meeting Angus. We had walked the 9km trek from Mcleodganj together to reach Triund. I can tell from looking at the photograph that the day was misty and that the usually spectacular view of the Kangra Valley from where we are standing must have been hidden from us. The details of what we did after reaching there, escape me. But it is likely that after coming down to my wood cabin by the lake we lit a bonfire and celebrated the day over a bottle of Old Monk.
Angus died a year ago, leaving behind only such fond memories to cherish.
Angus stood tall among us in life – and still does today. A year takes away some of the pain, but never the memory.
